Choirs & Cowboys & Flames - Oh my!

A little peek backstage, thanks to the choir director ~ I snagged a few of these from her..

The Aurora Youth Choir, ladies & gentlemen!

Up on the big screen to the left of the main stage...

What happens when you take one very excited little boy....

...and add in one awesome country singer?

See for yourself!

The flame, carried to the stage by 92 year old Elsie Yanik, a very well respected Métis Elder from up this way...I've never actually seen the Olympic Torch in person before, so this was pretty awesome to watch.

It was a very exciting day for all of the kids involved ~both on stage and in the audience! *grin*

The choir performed beautifully ~ from what Cindy tells me, there were a lot of butterflies making the rounds through the kids' stomachs when they realized just how HUGE the crowd was, but they got up there and sang their tails off and everyone is very, very proud of them!

I did take video of the choir singing, but I was right up close to the sound system during that part and it seems that my little camera couldn't deal with that level of sound ~ the town itself has a good recording and we're hoping a copy will be provided to the choir, and through there, to the parents... if I can get hold of that, or a good copy from another audience member, I'll post it.

And happily, our expected protesters didn't materialize.... I love this quote from the CTV article:

The crowds that are coming out to support the relay are the type of people who make up the heart of the country - people with whom you don't want to mess.

Yep, don't mess with the Canadians ~ that's a good way to get pelted with Timbits.

Oh my! Great to see the pics.

I can't believe two people who are only friends on~line, have never met in RL & *exactly* the same journey!!!

I'm looking pretty close. Girl has a good default position! ;P Way to go Miss Cinders!

What's with the different coloured scarves? Are they sectional colours, year colours, what?

The scarves aren't nearly as complicated as that, I'm afraid :-P

They made them at a workshop, as a fun/crafty/spirit building sorta deal... they're also a fundraiser, as they make extras and sell them at the Christmas market. They're done with this neat dying method that the CD learned somewhere. Very pretty!

Heh, about positions.. if you'd seen the shoes she had on, it's amazing she stayed upright. I gave in and let her wear heels - and they were HIGH. Walking on your toes kind of high ~ a thick heel, not a skinny thing, but they were still ridiculous...and I had to laugh because one of the first things she said to me when I fetched fer afterward was "My feet are killing me!" .. ha, told you so kiddo! (She's a little sensitive about her height -- she's 4'7" and turning 13 in January, that was a big part of why she wanted the heels)...

...it would be ever so lovely if there wasn't this whole ocean thing stuck between us! ;-)

Thanks for posting all the great pics, Molytail!

We're sorry we missed it!

Dee ~ I don't mind at all! And yes, he did - it was kind funny to watch him because he knows every. single. word, note, drum beat, etc to his fave songs and he'd stop sometimes and look puzzled because it sounds different live ~ especially when PB would throw in some extra lines, get the audience involved, etc LOL

Ganeida ~ I was thinking tunnel.. stay out of the weather...err, waves? LOL

I love the story and I myself am a proud Olympic Athelete and I do both five and ten pin bowling.
I have won many awards and medals and had the chance to go different places in Alberta to compete with others.
My one wish was to some day hold the torch and walk with other's and light it, who know's maybe one day my wish will come true...
In the mean time I am very proud to be part of the Olympics and more proud of others who had the chance to make thier dreams come true...
